Oct 27 2004

LORD Of The Rings star Billy Boyd has turned his back on Hollywood to set up home in Scotland.

Billy - Hobbit Pippin in the fantasy blockbuster - got sick of spending time away from home. So he bought a flat in Glasgow's west end just a few miles from his birthplace in Cranhill.

Billy, who is filming On A Clear Day in the city, said: 'I've just moved to a new flat in the west end. I've been taking some time off recently to concentrate on my new pad. 'I like staying here after moving around so much and I really wanted to come back. I've even got a new dog - a springer spaniel.'

Billy was launching the BAFTA Scotland awards in the city but he's not nominated. The ceremony will take place annually from now on, instead of every two years, and the award statuettes have been redesigned by artist Allan Ross.

Billy said: 'The new award is very handsome and it helps to show that Scotland has its own identity in the film and TV industry.'GMTV presenter Lorraine Kelly will host next month's ceremony at Glasgow's Radisson hotel.
